Visiting Brookgreen Gardens

September 27, 2021

South Carolina is home to some truly gorgeous outdoor scenery. From coastal views to lush forest scapes, there is beauty everywhere. One particularly lovely spot to visit while you're in town is Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet.

Brookgreen Gardens is home to a little bit of everything. The 9100-acre property includes several themed sculpture gardens, the Lowcountry Zoo, and trails through several ecosystems in nature reserves. With both art and wildlife, there is no shortage of things to do or see!

The incredible Botanical Gardens are lush with flowers year-round.There is also a butterfly garden! My personal favorite feature is the Live Oak Allée, which hosts 250 year-old Live Oak Trees that date back to the early 1700s. Throughout the spectacular garden displays, there are also incredible sculptures. Brookgreen Gardens has the largest and most comprehensive collection of American figurative sculpture in the country, featuring over 2000 works by 430 artists. It is a unique, wonderful place to spend the day!

The Lowcountry Zoo is another great part of Brookgreen Gardens. At the zoo, there are all sorts of native lowcountry species. They have alligators, bald eagles, grey foxes, hawks, owls, red foxes, river otters, white-tailed deer, ducks, herons, egrets, and more! They are also an integral part of the effort to help preserve severely endangered red wolves.

This destination has something for everyone! Brookgreen Gardens is open daily from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Tickets for can be purchased online. Plan your visit today!
